I became fascinated with modern art when studying architecture at the University of Southern California and to my parent’s chagrin, I changed my major and became an artist with all its costs and little of its benefits.
Early on, I developed a technique using a plastic putty knife to mix, apply, layer and carve the paint. Pursuing an elegant surface, the dried painting is then polished with fine steel wool to a ceramic-like texture that is then glazed by applying the sealer, again with the smoothing strokes of the plastic tool.
My creative process integrates the formulation of fresh, inventive constructions with subtle color juxtapositions to peak in an unpredictable, yet decisive solution. No doubt I’m inspired and influenced by bold painters like George Braque, Jasper Johns, and Sean Scully but I think their work is about stasis while mine is about balancing incongruity in random-pattern abstraction. |
